Dental Crowns & Bridges
Through the skilled application of dental crowns and bridges, our dentists can strengthen and restore your teeth to improve function and appearance.
A dental crown (also known as a cap) is a permanent casing that covers the tooth. The benefits of crowns include:
- Strengthening teeth, including root canal treated teeth
- Restoring heavily filled or worn teeth
- Addressing the appearance of discoloured or misshapen teeth
- Protecting cracked teeth
- Accommodating the attachment of a fixed bridge
How A Dental Bridge Is Done?
A dental bridge is crafted to look like your normal teeth and is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges connect to the teeth on either side of the space by crowning these teeth, effectively linking them together. Thus a bridge removes the need for a denture, but only if the surrounding teeth are strong enough to support it.
The Process
Three appointments are usually required to assess, measure, and fit a new crown or bridge. You’ll wear a temporary crown/bridge between appointments and may experience temporary sensitivity after tooth preparation. Some adjustment to the feel of the new crown/bridge is normal, typically taking 1-2 weeks.
Important Information:
- The tooth preparation process is irreversible – natural tooth structure must be removed
- Excellent oral hygiene is essential to prevent decay around crown margins
- There is a small risk of the crown becoming loose or requiring root canal treatment
- Not all teeth are suitable for crowns or bridges
- Regular dental check-ups are needed to monitor the crown/bridge
Warranty
We guarantee our crowns and bridges for five years, provided you attend regular checkup and hygiene appointments with us at least once every calendar year. This helps us monitor the crown/bridge and your oral health. If a crown or bridge fails due to a manufacturing defect during this period, we will repair or replace it at no charge.
