Braces For Kids & Teens In Sippy Downs, QLD

Watching your child grow into their smile is one of the great joys of parenthood, and sometimes, that smile needs a little guidance along the way. At Diamond Dental Care & Implant Centre, Dr. Doug Leishman and our team have helped countless local families navigate their children’s orthodontic journey, from that very first wobbly tooth to the day the braces come off and a confident new smile is revealed.

If you’re searching for orthodontic care near you for your child, we’d love to meet your family.

We Love Working with Kids

There’s something genuinely special about caring for younger patients. Kids are curious, brave, and surprisingly resilient and when they feel safe and listened to, they tend to become some of our most loyal patients well into adulthood.

Our entire team is trained to make pediatric visits feel relaxed rather than rushed. We take time to:

  • Explain everything in kid-friendly language before we do it, so there are no surprises.
  • Let children explore the chair, mirror, and tools at their own pace during early visits.
  • Celebrate small wins — a wobbly tooth pulled, a first check-up survived, a new toothbrush chosen from our prize basket.
  • Welcome parents into the room so younger kids always have a familiar face nearby.

Whether it’s a routine clean, a first orthodontic chat, or a dental emergency after a backyard tumble, our goal is for every child to walk out feeling proud rather than worried.

Braces

For many kids and teens, traditional braces remain the best option for achieving a healthy, well-aligned bite. They’re reliable, effective for a wide range of issues, and modern brackets are smaller and more comfortable than the chunky metal of years past.

At Diamond Dental Care & Implant Centre, we offer:

  • Traditional metal braces — the most cost-effective and versatile option, often customised with coloured elastics that kids love choosing at each visit.
  • Ceramic braces — tooth-coloured brackets that blend in more discreetly, popular with self-conscious teens.
  • Clear Aligners — clear aligners designed specifically for growing mouths, with built-in features for compliance tracking.

Most treatments run between 12 and 24 months, with check-in appointments roughly every six to eight weeks. We walk every family through what to expect — including which foods to avoid, how to keep teeth sparkling around brackets, and what to do if a wire pokes (it happens, and it’s an easy fix).

Orthodontic Screenings

The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends that every child have an orthodontic assessment by around age seven. That might sound early, but by this age your child has a mix of baby and adult teeth, and we can spot patterns that are far easier to guide now than to correct later.

An early screening at our Sippy Downs practice helps us identify:

  • Crowding or insufficient space for incoming adult teeth
  • Crossbites, overbites, or underbites that may worsen with growth
  • Jaw development concerns that benefit from early intervention
  • Habits like thumb sucking or tongue thrusting that affect tooth position
  • Airway and breathing issues sometimes linked to jaw shape

In many cases, the answer is simply to monitor and revisit in a year or two. When early treatment is warranted, addressing it during a child’s natural growth phase often means shorter, simpler treatment later on.
